Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) for Achalasia and Other Motor Disorders of the Esophagus
Key Points
Esophageal myotomy is the standard surgical treatment for achalasia and can be performed via standard Heller myotomy or endoscopically using a per-oral approach (POEM). In this chapter we will review the current POEM literature and the standard surgical technique of POEM as well as explore its role in non-achalasia sub-types.
