Supraclavicular Approach for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Audra A. Duncan, Susan E. Mackinnon, G. Alexander Patterson

Summary

The supraclavicular approach may be chosen for treatment of thoracic outlet syndrome based on its unique advantages. In patients who require arterial reconstruction, it is necessary to use the supraclavicular approach. However, it may also be preferred over a transaxillary exposure to facilitate cervical rib resection or based on surgeon preference for resection of the first rib and scalenectomy.
