Although not glamorous, palliative care in thoracic surgery has emerged as an area that deserves significant attention, as recent studies have demonstrated that initiation of palliation at the correct time can have a beneficial effect on patients who are suffering. Herein, a review of the recent literature and strategies to help patients with end-stage disease are presented.
