Introduction

Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is one of the most common congenital cardiac malformations seen in 1% to 2% of the population.[1] There is a strong male preponderance for BAV. Most patients develop some complication of the disease as a congenital factor although others may not until they are well into adulthood. Ever since Leonardo Da Vinci described the BAV in the 16th century, significant progress has been made in understanding and managing the syndrome.
