Healthcare professionals make bioethical decisions every day, reflective of traditional considerations, moral authority, and scientific evidence. These decisions are unique to modern medicine and are based on the physician common-sense, moral guidelines of the Hippocratic Oath. Pediatric congenital cardiology, heart surgery, and fetal surgery are unique in that at times the physician is dealing with rare medical conditions in which the collective global experience is scant and techniques are constantly changing in an effort to improve technology and outcomes. The current chapter focuses on bioethical dilemmas and considerations and the more common aspects of bioethics in determining clinical care.
